What is the job Description of a Dental Assistant

The Dental Assistant is expected to have a broad working knowledge of the dental office. Their duties include seating of the patient, chairside assistance, tray preparation, room and instrument sterilization, dental charting, and any other duties extended to them by the doctor within the limits of liability. Students will be allow to sit for a National Board exam.



What tasks are performed by the Dental Assistant?

Dental assistants perform a variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They work chairside as dentists examine and treat patients. They make patients as comfortable as possible in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, and obtain their dental records.

Assistants hand instruments and materials to dentists and keep patients mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices. Assistants also sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare trays of instruments for dental procedures, and instruct patients on postoperative and general oral health care.

Some dental assistants prepare materials for impressions and restorations as directed by a dentist. They also may remove sutures, apply topical anesthetics to gums or cavity-preventive agents to teeth, remove excess cement used in the filling process, and place rubber dams on the teeth to isolate them for individual treatment.

When licensed by the State where he/she works in Chair-side Dental Assistant may be ask to take and develop x-ray as prescribe by the dentis.

Course Description:

Dental Assisting is an exact technical occupation, and the Program is very intense. The students need to stay focused and on track early in the process. Self-motivated Students will be encouraged to be responsible, and proactive in their learning through the use of various interactions between peers and instructor. Other formats also will be use to support communication among students

Students will be given the opportunity to participate in their learning and ask questions to which responses are justified instead of maintaining the stance of the "correct answer".
Students will be encouraged to integrate content into practical application instead of only being able to perform a technique or routine.


Students test will give instructor, program director and themselves the chance to review the course objective instead of having (the students) to go to the pressure of memorizing a list of facts about the topics.

Course includes Anatomy, Tooth Morphology, Science in Dentistry, Health and Prevention, Infection Control in Dentistry, Occupational Health Safety, Patient Information and Assessments, and the Foundation of Clinical Dentistry.

Total Tuition Cost = $24,953

Receptionist Dental Assistant

The receptionist Dental Assistant is expected to be able to handle stress in a fast-paced office; schedule appointments using a standard appointment ledger or a computer program; have excellent organization skills, maintain ledger records of deposits and payments on spread sheets; complete registrations and history records for new patients; complete insurance forms; have outstanding oral communications skills to answer the phone in a pleasant manner, as well as excellent written communication skills to compose business letters; have some marketing skills and some knowledge of dental terminology.

Length of the Program: Six (6) Weeks

Course Objectives:

A Receptionist Dental Assist is trained to stay focused and on track. This 6 week program will use proactive materials to engage the student in their learning.

The Receptionist on a Dental office must be self-motivated and responsible.

The curriculum has been formatted to intensify communication skills and Customer Service awareness.

Students will learn to answer phone in a professional manner, take messages, make appointment, intake new patients and file. The extended duties also taught include ledger keeping for payments receive and Deposits made.
